Message from Jaymi Wilson 2022-02-03

Good morning!

I am a project manager for the City of Rochester, working on projects happening within the DMC district.  I received your name through the Mayor’s office as a person who is interested in helping us get information out to our highly diverse community regarding engagement opportunities.

Rochester’s downtown riverfront is poised for transformation. The Riverfront Small Area Plan project will create a high-level plan for future phased redevelopment.  We are looking for input to identify the Community’s vision for this site and create a plan that enhances the overall connectivity to the river. The Riverfront project is focused on the area east of Broadway, between 4th Street SE and 2nd Street SE.

Today, we’ll have a press release coming out, as well as a POLCO survey allowing people to offer feedback even if they aren’t able to attend.  I’ve attached the poster for this engagement series to this email in multiple languages, in case you are connected with any communities that may be interested.  Also, the first event for the engagement has been posted on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/723492791875502, and also on the website for the project here: http://www.riverfrontsap.com/  This site also has a full listing of the topics and dates.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions, or if you have other ideas as to how we can reach the diverse members within our community!

                Thank you!

 Jaymi

Riverfront Talks: Equity + Economy Feb 17, 2022

 Register for event 6:00pm - 7:30pm CT

Downtown Rochester is witnessing a good deal of new development with an influx of multifamily housing, institutional expansion and increased investment in the public realm.  New development should leverage what is already occurring and not syphon away activity from other locations.  This session will look at the market dynamics and probe how new growth downtown and along the river advances a just, fair and equitable city.

-       How can new investment ensure a welcoming place for people of all ethnicities, ages and abilities?

-       What are the market forces that will ensure inclusion and long-term viability?

-       What types of investment will assist with small business growth and entrepreneurship?

About Beam
  • For the commercial sector, we tend to register startup activities (new companies and new commercial projects) that bring diversification and high-impact opportunities to the area.
  • For the non-profit sector, we wish to shine light on all the organizations and services that otherwise labor under relative obscurity.
  • Our hope is that dmcbeam.org will encourage cross-sector collaborations and creative solutions.

While there are a number of registries in the community, dmcbeam.org's  distinct value is to pilot a database with a data structure and categorizations that answer the questions such as: What organizations or projects/programs in our community that have purported relevance with some of the over-arching focuses put forward by initiatives such as DMC, J2G and Health Improvements?

This database could be used as one of the ways to explore the capacities of the community. If you are someone on an exploratory journey to learn about the greater Rochester community. dmcbeam.org could be an interesting first step.
